These pages indulge my feelings of nostalgia for ephemera relating to Doctor Who.
Above: Radio Times Special 1973, a page from that special, Radio Times Special 1983, Doctor Who Weekly No. 1 from October 1979
Above far left: Comic adaptation of the first film: I spent years trying to get hold of a copy and finally did so from eBay.
Above second from left: page from the adaptation.
Above second from right: Cover to a collection of the best comic strip ever, 'The Daleks'.
About far right: The first Dalek comic strip I remember ever reading, which was around 1973.
Above (L to R): 1969 Dr Who Annual , 1974 Dr Who Annual, 1976 Doctor Who Omnibus and illustration from that book.
Above left: Cover to the reasonably rare annual-type book featuring Hartnell's Doctor
Above right: The cover to TV Tornado No. 59. Inside there's only a small mention of Patrick Troughton
Above (L to R): The Dalek Book The Dalek World, The Dalek Outer Space Book and Dalek Annual 1976.
Above (L to R): Doctor Who Holiday Special 1973, Doctor Who Holiday Special 1974, Doctor Who Winter Special 1977
Above (L to R): a 1975 poster magazine (front and back)
Also, a 1988 knitting pattern magazine from which I had a jumper made (of William Hartnell).
Above (L to R): A Radio Times covers, and a 1991 Bonhams auction catalogue with a sample page from it.
Above (L to R): 'Skaro', the first Doctor Who fanzine I ever read; 'Capitol Spires No. 1, 1993', the last fanzine I ever read because, simply, times had moved on, the professionals had moved in, and the age of fanzines was over. Also above, two editions of 'Sci-Fi Times' from the 1980s, which had boasted artwork by Tim Dodgson and Terry Doyle. |
Above: 1960s collector's book to place story cards in, and a sample page from the book.
Below: Four of the cards that formed part of the 'Dr Who's Space Adventure Book'.
Below: one of the many Chad Valley slides of the 1960s, 9 of which I obtained in the early 1990s. For all 9 click here.
Below: fronts and backs of three of the second set of cards given away with Weetabix. For the full set click here.
Left and below: cards from the Doctor Who Trump Card Game. I used to play these kind of games all the time as a kid so was very excited to see this pack of cards in the shop one day. This turned to disappointment when I opened the pack and saw the contents: historical figures were included amongst the cards and I couldn't get the point. I wanted more monsters. The art work was adequate rather than great too (photos would have been preferable). Subsequently, this was the only Trump game I had but never played, though I've kept this set of cards whilst having departed with those I did play with at the time. |
